Canon's RS-80n3
And how to make your own PW cable.

1: Peal off the black sheath first. When you do this, you'll see the copper wire shielding that wraps around the entire inside.

2: Peal the shield back and twist it into its own wire.

3: Remove the string and paper insulation from the opening.

4: Strip 1/2 inch off of the end of the red and white wires.

5: You are now ready to do whatever you need to do to the cable...

6: Crossing the red wire to the shield wire will fire the camera. Crossing the white wire to the shield wire will cause the camera to auto focus AND STAY AWAKE. This will make the cable act as a pre-release cable, and is highly recommened if you plan to use this on a remote.

Now that we have all of that out of the way, here's what you need to do if you plan to splice a radio slave cable into the RS-80N3.

1: Splice the red wire from the RS-80n3 to the red wire in the miniphone cord.

2: Splice the shield wire from the RS-80n3 to the shield wire in the miniphone cord.

3a: (Optional) IF you want this to function as a pre-release cable (see red text above) you will want to splice the white wire to the shield wire as well. This will make it a permanent pre-release.

3b: If you want to add a switch to the cable so that you can turn the pre-release on and off, connect both shield wires to one of the end prongs on a switch. Connect the white wire (of the cord heading to the motordrive) to the middle prong and carefully solder. (see photo below)

4: Lastly wrap everything up in electrical tape. I suggest making the cable into an "S" shape
with the splice in the center, and then tape everything up. That way you help add strength.

You'll need a MONO audio headphone jack like this.
There are only two wires inside, the red and the shield. Make sense? Good, I hope everything works out correctly. Questions can be sent my way.
